However the "widescreen fix" is the problem, and the key is the vorbisFile.dll, the default is a mere 65k in size, and the one included in the fix is 1.2MB. The closest I got was using the "Reborn" version as documented here, since this just needs to overwrite files as opposed to running other EXE patches:
While running the default game seems fine on Steam Play, trying to do the same with the "downgrade" that seems essential crashes to desktop.
